On Wednesday (August 6, 2025), four people, including a woman, died after consuming a herbal medicine for alcohol de-addition in Imadapur village in Sedam Taluk in Kalburagi district.
The four, who died, have been identified as 45 -year -old Lakshmi Narasimhulu, a hotel employee and a 27 -year -old Nagesh Gadugu of Madakal village, resident of Burugupalli village, who 30 -year -old Ganesh Rathod and 35 -year -old Manohar Trishahi of Manohar Trisha Tandap, 30 -year -old Ganesh Rathod from Dakka Tanka in Shahabad Taluk.
The four died on Wednesday evening, while another one who took the medicine is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in GIMS.
On Wednesday, a complaint was lodged by Navta Bhagappa Kachwar at Sedam police station in which he said that his mother Lakshmi Narasimalu and his brother Ningappa called him to get tokens from a traditional healer named Fakirappa of Imadapur village on Tuesday, who was receiving medicines for alcohol de-additions.
As his mother, Navit Kachwar and her husband visited Imadapur on Wednesday morning, who visited Imadapur to collect tokens for consultation. His mother and brother reached Imadapur in the afternoon.
By 2 pm, the traditional ointment gave herbal medicine to his mother, brother and others, including Nagesh, Ganesh and Manohar, who all fainted after consuming the medicine.
The victims were initially rushed to Sedam Taluk Hospital and then, Lakshmi Narashimalu and Ningappa were transferred to Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) at Kalburagi.
Superintendent of Police Aduru Srinivasulu said that accused Fakirappa has been arrested. He was sent to judicial custody on Thursday.
Former MLA Rajkumar Patil Telkur demanded that the state government provides ₹ 25 lakh compensation to the families of each of the four.
