East Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Swami Prasad Maurya, on Wednesday (August 5, 2025), was allegedly slapped by a Karni Sena worker on the route of Fatehpur.
The incident occurred in Saras Crossing, where Lok Morcha stopped for a brief reception program organized by major local supporters.
According to police, a person slapped him from behind, while pretending to wait for him for the garland.
His supporters immediately caught him and beat him up.
Circle Officer (Sadar) Amit Singh told PTI Two people have been taken into custody in connection with the case.
Mr. Singh said, “In the crowd of supporters, there were two people who garlanded them in their hands and misbehaved with them,” Mr. Singh said, both are being questioned.
Meanwhile, a video of the attack went viral on social media.
Mr. Maurya later said that this act revealed that Karni comes from those who come to power.
He said, “The goons of this organization are wreaking havoc on law and order in the state under the protection of the ruling regime,” he said.
“Some insects of Karni Sena repeatedly trample the law, but since they belong to the same community as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government remains silent against such mafia elements,” Mr. Maurya told reporters.
The leader of the former Samajwadi Party said that Karni Sena was chaotic and had no relation for law and order. “If the goons can carry out such attacks in the presence of the police, one can only imagine what they are able to do when the police are absent.”
He announced that the Lok Morcha would contest elections with slogans in 2027 elections with ‘BJP Hatao, Save UP’ (removal of BJP).
