Uttarkashi floods: Rescue teams reconstruct a body in Dharli

A dead body was recovered and 150 people were rescued on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) from the flooded mountain village in Dharali, as among the huge challenges in search of the missing, one of them, one, received continuous rains.

The landslide blocked the arterial roads leading to Dharli, where dozens of people were trapped and many houses and cars were swept away by fierce water on Tuesday. Eleven army personnel from a nearby camp in Harsil were among the missing people.

The Uttarkashi Disaster Control Room said that the person whose body was recovered was identified as 35 -year -old Akash Panwar.

A 28 -member group of tourists who are native to Kerala, are also missing.

The missing said, “He said that he was going from Uttarkashi to Gangotri at around 8.30 pm that day. Landslide occurred along the route. We were unable to contact him,” since he left, “said a relative of a relative of the missing.

Four people are suspected to be killed in disaster, who killed the ecological area after the authorities described as Claudbers on Tuesday afternoon. At least half of the dharli was buried under the rapid flowing mudslide of slices, debris and water.

The village is the main stagnation on the way of Gangotry, from where the Ganges originates, and many hotels and homes to live in the house.

A man told PTI video He was not able to contact his brother and his family from 2 pm on Tuesday (August 5, 2025).

“My younger brother, his wife and his son. We had a hotel and a house in Dharli. All this was swept away. I spoke to him yesterday at 2 pm. I have been assured by the Chief Minister that a helicopter will be pressed in service to watch him tomorrow.”

According to Mohsin Shahedi, the Operations of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of NDRF, three teams of the federal contingency force are the routes of Dharli, but have been unable to reach there as the continuous landslide has blocked the Rishikesh -Uttarkashi highway.

Dharli is about 140 km from Dehradun and is usually on a five -hour drive.

Mr. Shahedi told reporters in Delhi that two NDRF teams could be airlifted from Dehradun, but they cannot be carried forward.

He said that the teams of Army, ITBP and SDRF are conducting rescue operations in the affected area, and about 150 people have been rescued.

“We are told that four people have been killed and about 50 are missing,” said Mr. Shahedi.

The Gangotry National Highway has been blocked at various points, with an official at the District Emergency Operations Center in Uttarkashi, to wait for a joint team with a joint team of over 200 rescue personnel.

A bridge over the Limca River at Gangotri National Highway was swept away by a flash flood, leaving a team of rescue personnel trapped on the way to Dharli.

Mr. Dhami said that arrangements have been made for medicines and food, and 160 police personnel have been deployed to oversee ration. Three nodal officers have been appointed from the CM’s office.

“Every life matters to us,” said the chief MNInister.

Later in a social media post, he said that officers in Uttarkashi have been asked to stay on an alert mode-the-clock.

He said that all government agencies, departments and army are working with total coordination.

Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli said that more than 100 ITBP, BRO and SDRF workers are engaged in rescue operations on the site and many more are in the way of joining soon.

The Indian Army has placed its Mi-17 and Chinook helicopters on standby to see trapped. They will fly only after the weather is clear.

Local people said that at least 60 people have gone missing, but the number is more likely to be more, as many people gathered for every milk fair in Dharli village, when the tragedy took place, the locals said.

Colonel Harshvardhan, Commanding Officer of 14 Raj Rife, is leading relief and rescue operations with the 150-SAIN team.

Defense spokesperson Lt Col Manish Srivastava said that despite its disappearance and its basis being a hit, the team is working with full courage and determination.

There is heavy rainfall in different parts of Uttarakhand, with many rivers.

The Central Water Commission said in a bulletin that Mandakini in Rudraprayag, Mandakini in Rudraprayag, Banganga in Haridwar and Bhagirathi in Devprayag are flowing above the danger mark.

Late evening of Tuesday (August 6, 2025), a landslide occurred, with railway tracks passing through the Motichur range of Rajji Tiger Reserve, causing the movement of trains from Haridwar to Rishikesh and Dehradun at a stop.

A help desk has been set up at Haridwar railway station for passengers.
