State Police Chief (SPC) Ravada A. Chandrashekhar has demanded collective action to deal with drug threats, described it as a national security concern that is about to leak in schools, colleges and rural communities.
Speaking in the list of Soxoxa analyzers, a tool to investigate the presence of drugs to the police in Kannur, he said that 25,000 drug cases were registered so far this year.
The SPC said that the misuse of drugs was no longer limited to the dark streets, but by corrupting the youth, destroying the families and promoting organized crime, destabilizing the society.
“Kerala, with its high literacy rate, should not fall prey to this silent epidemic. Along with enforcement, initial identity, timely intervention and strong partnership is required,” he said.
Highlighting the enforcement efforts, Mr. Chandrashekhar stated that 30,000 cases were detected in 2023, while 27,000 cases were detected in 2024. This year alone, the police discovered 3,000 hemp cases and seized 17 kg MDMA.
Pointing to large -scale drug seizures at ports and airports, he said enforcement was important for the supply chains to knee. He appreciated the police personnel for his efforts but emphasized the need for community participation.
The SPC urged civil bodies, NGOs, educational institutions, parents, media and student police cadets to join the fight against drugs.
Sotoxa analyzers were provided using the corporate social response of Walker Foundation in collaboration with the Kannur Seiyed Rotary Club. Inspector General (North Zone) Rajpal Meena, Deputy Inspector General of Kannur Range GH Yathsh Chandra, District Police Chief (Kannur City) P. Nidhinraj, and Walker Foundation President VKC Naushad was present.
