Kick it out: Record-high report of discrimination with an increase in genderism, transfobia and confidence-based misuse during 2024-25 season

Anti-discriminating charity kick said it received a record-high report of discrimination during the 2024–25 season, which increased sexism, transfobia and confidence-based misuse.

Last season, 1,398 incidents were reported beyond all levels of English football – above 1,332 Published in last season data – And most obtained by the organization.

The report of sexism and misunderstanding increased by 67%in the 2023-24 season with a report from 115 to 192.

Faith-based misuse climbed from 117 to 132, while transfobia reported from 22 to 44.

Reports related to girls’ football doubled by 31, including two at the level of two under -9, while the total youth report increased from 144 to 186 records.

The total report of racism fell at all football levels, but the number of racist incidents in professional sports increased from 223 to 245.

Kick It Out also noted in its end-of-season reporting data for last season:

  • 621 reports of online misuse were submitted – 5% increase last year – with 268 related to racism.

  • There were 18 reports of sexual chanting for 2024–25, which had almost matched the total for the last four sessions.

  • Grassroots football in 2023-24 was responsible for 325 reports – 303.

  • Homophobic misuse fell slightly, below 162 to 139 reports.

  • There was also a significant increase in abuse of disability, with a report of 45% in the report from 51 to 76 in all levels of the game.

Kick It Out Chief Executive Samuel Okafor stated that “discrimination is deeply inherent in sports”, and an increase in abuse in young football should be “a wake-up call”.

Okafore admitted that there was a “clear change” in people in the “sexist behavior”, but he wanted to see more and more action to deal with online misuse.

“It is clear that online platforms are still decreasing. The amount of misuse is high, and often there is no result of those responsible people,” said Okafor.

“Fans are playing their role by speaking. It is now up to football officials, technical companies and government that they are listening, and acting.”
